Halva Recipe (Semolina Cake)

A traditional Greek favourite, Halva is a semolina based cake that can be made in four easy steps. It’s simple!

Ingredients:
1 cup olive oil
½ cup chopped almonds
2 cups semolina
Cinnamon

Syrup:
2 ½ cups sugar
½ cup honey
5 cups water
cinnamon stick

Method: 

  1. Combine sugar, honey and water over heat. Bring to the boil and simmer for about 10 minutes until it becomes a light syrup.
  2. Once syrup has cooled, place oil in saucepan and heat until very hot.
    Add semolina & almonds and stir through until semolina is golden brown and the almonds are slightly roasted.
  3. Take off heat and pour in the syrup. Thoroughly stir through until thick, and pour into a jelly mould.
  4. Leave in mould until cool and set, then sprinkle with cinnamon.
